Dr. Bogan has worked with many children in our clinic in Tulsa, OK. As a mother or father, there is no worse experience than seeing your child in pain and not being able to do anything about it. Perhaps you're worried about the side effects of the drugs or maybe even these conventional approaches to managing pain haven't made much of a difference. Recent research proposes that more parents of kids with chronic neurological conditions are turning to chiropractic and other noninvasive treatments to help their children live normal, pain-free lives.
In one study of pediatric patients at Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, Canada, and Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, researchers looked at over 200 surveys completed regarding both male and female patients with an average age of roughly 10 years old. The diagnoses of the patients spanned from epilepsy to headaches to cerebral palsy.
The team found that about 60% of the parents interviewed had sought some form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). The most prevalent CAM treatments were massage and chiropractic care. Multi-vitamins were the most utilized CAM supplements.
In the surveys reviewed, most participants found that they found good health benefits with CAM and were grateful for the minimal or completely non-existent side effects. They also noted that if you do choose to use CAM products, it is always important to disclose this to your primary-care doctor.
In a previous study involving the same two hospitals, researchers analyzed 939 questionnaires completed by parents who had children with serious symptoms. Just as before, the parents agreed that CAM products and treatments such as chiropractic care were used quite often and very beneficial when dealing with children who suffered with chronic disorders. The ones reported in the report were ailments relating to cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, oncology, or respiratory issues.
Both of these reports point out the many advantages of using complementary and alternative medicine like chiropractic care when helping a little one cope their long-term illness. It offers an alternative that doesn't create detrimental complications and focuses on complete body health, making it great for children with chronic health problems.
